Used 2015 Ford Expedition 4WD 4dr XLT Review

Used 2015 Ford Expedition 4WD 4dr XLT Review

I have with me here the 2015 Ford Expedition. As you can see, this is a big vehicle. It is not small. No matter how you look at it. There’s room for eight passengers. It can tow 9,200 pounds and there’s plenty of cargo space inside. The biggest news for this year is the engine.

By the way if you are looking for a RAV4 Ankeny stop by Wilson Toyota of Ames. They are great, and when we don’t have a particular vehicle for sale that a customer is looking for near Ankeny Iowa we like to refer folks to Wilson Toyota of Ames.

You’re not gonna get a V8 on this. You’re gonna get an EcoBoost V6 that still has plenty of power to move this beast down the highway.

So the Ford Expedition might not have gotten an update since 2007, which is kind of a long time, but they have updated some important bits. One of those bits is the engine. It’s now an EcoBoost 3.5 liter v6. This has 365 horsepower and it has 420 pound feet of torque. It’s more than competent for moving this vehicle through the streets.

Whether you’re on a highway and you’re just looking for that little extra boost to get through traffic, or even if you’re on a side road and you’re going up a pretty steep hill, it still feels very powerful and you never get a sense that it’s lacking and that you need a little bit more, and that suddenly you’re in a really big vehicle that just doesn’t have the power to, to hack the weight of the so that’s a nice update.

The fuel economy is also improved by going with the V6 engine. You’re getting a few more miles per gallon. That’s not a huge difference, but when you consider how much this car gets to begin with, it’s, it’s combined as only 17 miles per gallon. Every extra mile per gallon that you can get matters. Um, and you have the V6 to thank for that.

So what you’re getting with the expedition is two big reasons to get this car. First eight passengers, you can fit eight. Uh, that third row is a little on the tight side, and it’s a, it’s not gonna be for six three adults. Uh, but it’s perfectly fine for the kiddos. The main reason to buy this, you need that passenger space and you also need the cargo to go with it.

You have an incredible cargo capacity with this and you can tone 9,200 pounds. So you could still have a lot of stuff and a lot of people at the same time. Uh, the configurations because the seeds fold flat depending on whether you’ve got lots of people. You just a little bit of people and you got cargo.

You can make it work either way. That’s a nice feature too, as for comfort. Now, this is the king. So it’s got some fancier trim, it has a special kind of leather, the brown leather, and you’ll see the King Ranch logo everywhere. Uh, that’s something that you’re only gonna find in this edition, although this isn’t even the fanciest version of the car.

You can get the platinum, which is all new this year, and that brings it up an even fancier level with more things that are standard features and a couple of additional options too.

As far as infotainment, you have two choices. You have the sync my forward voice, or you have the same thing, but it’s my Ford Touch. There’s a pretty big difference. You get a tiny little 4.2 inch screen with a my forward voice upgraded to touch. You get a bigger screen, it’s eight inches. It’s divided into four quadrants.

So it’s actually really easy to use and it’s easy to see at a glance what you’ve got and find something without having to look too long away from the road. Uh, you also get on your dashboard, you’re gonna have two, 4.2 inch screens for all of your information. Uh, that is a, an upgrade on the base model, which is the XLT and everything else at standard.

It’s totally worth the upgrade. If you wanna go one higher. The Sync three system, well that’s new for 2016. You’re not gonna get that on this version of the car at all. So if that’s what you want, you want the newest, latest, and greatest version of their infotainment. You have to wait for the 16 model here.

So how much is a bad boy like this gonna cost for this exact model that I’m driving right now? $62,000. So it’s not cheap. You’re not really gonna get yourself into an eight passenger SUV for. But you can do it for less than this. In some other brands, that’s also a challenge. So your value is only sort of there.

If you’re getting the top of the line in this, you could be bumping up near 70 grand, but if you’re willing to give up a little bit and you don’t mind the base trim, you don’t want some of the fancier accoutrements that you can get in this. Then you’re looking at a car that’s closer to 50,000. So you have some options, but no matter how you cut it, this is definitely not a cheap.

One of the nice things that you get in the expedition, which is super helpful because of its size, is there’s deployable foot rails so that when the doors open, the foot rails come down and you can step right up into the car. It’s great if you’re short, even if you’re not short. This is a nice feature.

The only trick is they come down no matter what. So if you just open the door, for example, to throw something inside, you gotta be careful those don’t come down and pop you in the shins. So all in all, you have a. A decent, large suv. Uh, the failing of it, and I hate to say that cuz this is otherwise a great vehicle, is that the interior just isn’t quite up to modern standards.

That 2007 lag between then and now, things have changed and although it’s. Nice and there’s quality leathers. There’s also kind of a lot of plastics and things that just don’t look as updated. Like if you look at a Chevy Tahoe, that one is all new. That car looks fantastic. This one just is. It doesn’t shine as well on the inside, despite the fact that it easily accommodates eight people, gives you your cargo and gives you your towing.

By the way if you are looking for a Ford F150 in Ames stop by Wilson Toyota of Ames. They are great, and when we don’t have a particular vehicle for sale that a customer is looking for near  Ames or Ankeny Iowa we like to refer folks to Wilson Toyota of Ames. They are great people.

That’s something that they really need to address and hopefully that will come up in the next few years.

Okay, so this is your 2015 Ford Expedition. It hasn’t been updated really since 2007 with anything major, but you’re still getting that V6 engine, so you’re getting better fuel economy. You get all that passenger room cargo, space towing capacity, so you’re getting a lot of utility in this vehicle.
