If you ask for a car that’s both fun and affordable, the Fiat 500 pop will definitely make the list. This little hatchback from Italy pays tribute to the legendary Fiat 500 of the 1950s, but in a package that flaunts, its retro styling and fully modern use of te. Every inch of the Fiat 500 is styled to create an impression, and that impression is all about enjoyment.
The basic package includes two doors, four seats, and five cubic feet of trunk space. There’s even an optional Beats premium audio system to turn the fun dial all the way to 11, flip the rear seats down to maximize your storage space, and there’s 10 cubic feet of cargo volume for you to use. The driver’s compartment in the Fiat 500 is all about that retro style.
Fiat revived. The old idea of painting the dashboard with the exterior body color, and they’re not afraid of extreme touches like Houndstooth upholstery. The gauges are cleverly presented in concentric rings inside a single seven inch driver information pod, and the climate controls are simple, large, and easy to use. The infotainment system is Fiat Chrysler’s Uconnect system manage through a five inch touchscreen display. There’s also a row of real buttons under the screen and real knobs on either side.
Navigation and satellite radio are optional extras, but they are available in the pop trim under the hood. You get Fiat’s innovative, 1.4 liter multi air engine. Rated at 101 horsepower in 98 pound feet of torque. That may not sound like much these days, but the 500 is a lightweight to the tune of several hundred pounds less than competing vehicles.
As a result, the little fiat has a zero to 60 time of a very respectable 8.1 seconds. When equipped with the optional six speed automatic transmission, the Fiat 500 pop delivers up to 27 miles to the gallon in city driving and up to 33 miles to the gallon on the highway. Once on the road, the Fiat 500 pop is maneuverable and eager to get up to highway speeds, and the engine power is well suited to the car’s lighthearted nature.
